Akita - native of Japan. A strong working dog with a thick coat to protect against the harshest arctic conditions.
The Akita breed history dates back some 300 years. It has been used for guard work, as a guide dog for the blind and as a hunting companion. Akitas have webbed feet and are strong swimmers; they are also good at sled work.
